How Do I Give Spare Keys to My Housekeeper?
You can hand over a set of spare keys to your regular Housekeeper so they can clean while you're out. To do this:
- Log in to your Housekeep account or app
- Click More in the menu
- Select Access details
- Under How will your Housekeeper access your property, choose Using spare keys
- Pick an upcoming clean to hand over your keys
- Add any relevant locking, unlocking, or alarm instructions
- Click Save changes
Your Housekeeper will receive a unique code to tag your keys and will remove any identifying information. We’ll track in our system that your Housekeeper is holding your spare keys.
Where Are My Keys Stored?
Your spare keys are securely held by your regular Housekeeper between cleans. If your Housekeeper takes time off, they’ll usually keep the keys so they can resume your cleans upon return. If you book a cover Housekeeper while they’re away, you’ll need to provide temporary access.
You can view the current status of your keys at any time by going to the Access details page in your Housekeep account or app.
How Can I Get My Spare Keys Back?
You can request your keys to be returned by:
- After a scheduled clean – no additional charge
- As a separate key return visit – incurs a one-hour fee
To arrange this, head to Access details in your Housekeep account or app and follow the link at the top of the page.
If your keys are held at the Housekeep office, you can request they be posted to you via Royal Mail – just get in touch through the Help section in your account or app.
What Happens if My Keys Are Lost?
If your Housekeeper misplaces your registered spare keys, Housekeep will cover the cost of cutting a replacement set. As our tagging system uses unique codes with no identifying information, there’s no security risk – so we don’t arrange or reimburse lock changes.
Is It Safe to Give My Housekeeper a Spare Key?
Yes – we background-check all Housekeepers and use a secure tagging system for spare keys. However:
- Spare key access is a private agreement between you and your Housekeeper
- Housekeep is not responsible for issues arising from this arrangement
- Any misuse of keys would be a criminal matter – we would support any investigation, but we are not liable
Your Housekeeper will follow your locking instructions after each clean to ensure your home is secure.
